Capability of HYDRUS wetland module to simulate flow and nitrogen removal processes in pilot-scale treatment peatlands under frost and no-frost conditions

چکیده

The HYDRUS wetland module is widely used together with the biokinetic model CWM1 to simulate reactive transport of contaminants in constructed wetlands. However, this approach has not been previously processes peat-based wetlands operating cold climates and treating mining-influenced water. In study, goal was clarify changes flow, transport, nitrogen removal climate treatment peatlands by assessing performance HYDRUS-CWM1. Flow non-reactive tracer, ammonium, nitrite, nitrate, two pilot operated under controlled conditions representing frozen (winter) frost-free (summer) periods were simulated. Model simulation outputs compared against data obtained from a full-scale peatland water an Arctic region. Initial peaks tracer concentration simulated satisfactorily, but transformation species peatlands, especially partially conditions, modeled only limited success. Limitations assumptions made for simulations have discussed highlight challenges modeling peatlands. • satisfactorily. Transport winter possibilities improvement are discussed. Possibility use multiple add-ons simultaneously may be critical.

Evaluation the Resistance of Almond to Frost in Controlled and Field Conditions

Frost damage to the flowers and early developing fruits is one of the most limiting factors in the most almond cultivation regions of the world. This study was undertaken to help understand almond response to frost spring at same phenological stage, in order to develop criteria for the selection of cultivars with improved resistance to frost on the basis of field and laboratory experiments. In ...

Reac ve Transport Modeling of Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetlands Using the HYDRUS Wetland Module

Constructed wetlands (CWs) are engineered water treatment systems designed to remove various types of contaminants. A large number of processes simultaneously contribute to water quality improvement in CWs. During the last decade, there has been a wide interest in the understanding of complex “constructed wetland” systems, including the development of numerical process-based models describing t...

Frost heave

The deformation of the ground surface that is produced by frost heave has motivated almost a century of concerted laboratory, field and theoretical studies. Well before the development of equipment capable of resolving the microscopic films that support liquid transport towards growing ice lenses, early investigators predicted their occurrence and noted their importance. Idealized experiments c...
